Fire your bookkeeper.
Cancel QuickBooks.
Your AI replaces your bookkeeper. exobooks replaces QuickBooks.
exobooks is an accounting ledger built to be run by the AI you already use. Real bank feeds. A complete read/write API. Git-style history, so anything your agent does can be undone.
Works with Claude, ChatGPT, or anything that can call an API. We don't ship an AI. You already have a better one.
A year of books. Under an hour. To the penny.
In August I connected Claude to one of my companies' books, my email, and my Dropbox, and told it to reconcile all of 2025.
It finished in under an hour. Every account tied out to the penny. Along the way it found transactions that were missing, transactions that had been imported twice, and two errors in our 2024 tax filings. Humans kept those books. Humans filed those taxes. Nobody caught any of it.
The model was not the hard part. Claude already knows more accounting than the person you are paying. The hard part was QuickBooks. To let an agent do real work I had to work around the official API, because the official API will not show an agent your bank feed. We build QuickBooks software for a living, and it still took that.
You shouldn't have to. So we are building the ledger that should have been there.

Set it up once. Then stop thinking about it.
- Connect your banks and cards. Transactions flow into exobooks as raw bank feeds, from every institution you use, not just one.
- Connect your AI. Add the exobooks MCP server to Claude or ChatGPT, or hand your agent an API key. It can now read and write everything: accounts, transactions, feeds, reports, history.
- Tell it to do your books. It categorizes, reconciles, matches receipts from your email, and asks you about the handful of things it can't work out. You answer in the same conversation.
- Look whenever you want. A fast UI for you: ledger, chart of accounts, P&L, balance sheet, and the full history of what your agent did and why.
you> Close out September. Flag anything weird.
claude> Done. 214 transactions categorized, all 4 accounts reconciled
to statement balances. 3 questions:
1. $4,200 to "NORTHWIND LLC" on 9/12. No invoice in email or
Dropbox. Contractor or equipment?
2. Two Figma charges on 9/03. One looks like a duplicate seat.
3. The $38,900 server purchase: I capitalized it and set up
5-year depreciation. Say the word and I'll expense it instead.
Everything is in commit a41f9c. Revert any of it from History.
"Can't I just point Claude at QuickBooks?"
You can try. We did. Here is what you hit.
- Your agent can't see your bank feed. The QuickBooks API hides bank transactions until a human has clicked through them in the UI. Intuit has said in writing that this will not change.
- It's slow and it's metered. Writes go through in small batches under rate limits, and Intuit now charges developers for API reads. A year of cleanup is thousands of calls.
- There is no undo. QuickBooks has an audit log and no way to revert. If your agent makes 900 bad edits, a human fixes 900 edits by hand. People pay a third party monthly just for snapshot backups.
- There is no history. You can't see your books as they were on the day you filed. You can't diff last month against this month.
- They want you to use their AI. Intuit's plan is an assistant inside QuickBooks that sees only QuickBooks. It will never read your email, your contracts, or your calendar. Yours already does.
QuickBooks was designed for a person clicking through screens. exobooks is designed for an agent doing the work and a person checking it.
Let your agent go wild. Everything is undoable.
The reason you would never hand an agent the keys to your QuickBooks file is that mistakes there are permanent. In exobooks nothing is.
exobooks works like git. Every change, yours or your agent's, is a commit: who made it, when, why, and exactly what changed. Nothing is ever overwritten. Nothing is ever lost.
Full history
Every version of your books, forever. Browse it like a commit log.
Revert anything
One change or a thousand. Undo last night's agent run in one click.
Books as of any date
See the ledger exactly as it stood the day you filed, closed the round, or sent the board deck.
Diff
Compare any two points in time. See precisely what your agent changed this week.
Blame
Every entry knows who wrote it: you, your agent, your CPA, or the bank feed.
Pull requests, if you want them
Prefer a tighter leash? Have your agent propose changes and approve them before they land.
Your bookkeeper makes mistakes too. You just never get to see them, and you can't undo them.
Your AI is a better bookkeeper than your bookkeeper.
Your books are done now, not on the 20th.
No month-end scramble. No waiting for the close. The books are current the moment you ask.
Answers in seconds.
What was burn last month? Why did software spend jump? Can we afford this hire? Ask, and get the answer with the transactions behind it. No email. No "I'll get back to you Thursday."
It sees everything. Your bookkeeper sees what you forward.
Your agent reads the receipt in your inbox, the contract in Dropbox, the meeting on your calendar, and the charge on your card, and books it right the first time. Bookkeeping is mostly a context problem, and your AI has the context.
It thinks about your taxes all year.
Your bookkeeper categorizes. Your AI tells you the $40K of equipment should be capitalized, how to depreciate it, and what that does to this year's tax bill. It finds the deductions you are missing and has the schedules ready before your CPA asks. Ours found two errors in returns that professionals had already filed.
It never quits, never goes on vacation, and never takes on too many clients.
The math
Bookkeeper + QuickBooks
$500 to $10,000+ / month
- Books ready weeks after month end
- Answers in days, by email
- Sees only what you send them
- Mistakes are silent and permanent
Your AI + exobooks
about $50 / month
- Plus the AI subscription you already pay for (Claude Max is $200)
- Books current whenever you ask
- Answers in seconds
- Sees your email, files, calendar, banks
- Every change visible and reversible
Just incorporated? Never hire a bookkeeper in the first place.
Connect your bank, your cards, and Stripe on day one and tell your AI to keep the books. You will never have a QuickBooks file, never pay for a year of "catch-up," and never discover at your first fundraise that nobody knows what your burn is. Your books are clean from the first transaction, and the full history is there when diligence asks for it.
Everyone else put their AI inside. We built for yours.

A real ledger, with a UI you will actually like
For you
- Instant ledger: browse, filter, search and edit tens of thousands of transactions with no spinner
- Chart of accounts, hierarchical, with tags and classes
- P&L, balance sheet, expense charts
- History, diffs, and revert
- Read-only login and year-end package for your CPA
For your agent
- Complete read/write API: if the UI can do it, the API can do it
- MCP server
- Bulk import and bulk edit, fast
- Raw bank feeds from all your institutions
- Arbitrary metadata on anything, so your agent can leave itself notes
- Double-entry invariants enforced: it cannot force the books to balance
Your data stays yours
Import from QuickBooks, CSV, or beancount. Export everything, any time, in open formats. We host it so it is backed up and shareable, not so you are stuck.
Why we don't ship an AI
Every accounting product is racing to bolt an assistant into its app. That is backwards. An assistant trapped inside your accounting software knows nothing about your business except your accounting. The AI you already use knows your email, your documents, your calendar, your code. It gets more useful with every system it can touch, and you have already tuned it to work the way you do.
So intelligence belongs outside the app. The app's job is to hold the data safely and expose all of it, for reading and writing, to whatever model you choose this year and whatever model replaces it next year.
exo: outside. As in exokernel. The books are kept from the outside in.
Questions
What if my AI gets something wrong?
It will, sometimes. So does your bookkeeper. The difference is that here every change is visible, attributed, and reversible. Revert it, tell your agent what it got wrong, and it won't repeat the mistake.
Do I still need a CPA?
That is your call. If you keep one, give them a read-only login and a year-end package, and let your agent answer their questions in minutes instead of you answering them in weeks. "Fire your bookkeeper" is about the daily work that a machine now does better.
What about payroll, invoicing, and bill pay?
You already use Gusto, Stripe, and Mercury or bill.com for those. exobooks does not bundle worse versions of them. It is the ledger they all feed into.
Which banks work?
Thousands of US banks and cards through Plaid, plus CSV and statement import for anything else.
Does my financial data get sent to your AI?
We don't have one. Your data goes to the model you choose, including one running on your own hardware.
Can I bring my QuickBooks history?
Yes. Import it, and your agent can clean it up on the way in.
When can I use it?
exobooks is in development. Join the list and we will bring you in as early access opens. Tell us which AI you use and what you pay for bookkeeping today and you will move up.
Humans shouldn't be doing this.
Your AI replaces your bookkeeper. exobooks replaces QuickBooks.
